God’s Humor & Timing

“Let’s get Blue a sister to play with and keep her company.”

Let me tell you, I am famous for “last words”. This was what I said to Brandon about a month ago. The reason being is because we are used to having 2 dogs and because we lost our 12 year old dog last year which left us with a 6 month old puppy who had no other dog to play with. Brandon agreed that Blue needed another pup to play with so the search began. It did not take long and I found Luna on Adopt a pet. Her owner was diagnosed with Mast Cell Disorder which is in the bone marrow and causes bones to break very easily, struggles with inflammation in the organs, extreme fatigue and weakness. Her owner broke her back while moving a couch in her living room with her nephew, which is how they found the disorder. It is incurable and with the degree she has it will sadly shorten her life span. I felt God asking us to help.

SO we adopted Luna a wonderful one and a half year old Blue Heeler Pointer mix 12 days ago. When we first saw her we thought she was over weight and noticed her teats were a bit larger then usual. She had a vet visit with her owner just 4 days before we adopted her and the vet agreed she was over weigh. She said the larger teats were from just being in heat about a month ago and that things usually return to normal in 6-8 weeks post heat. So we moved forward with the adoption.

Luna’s first portrait! I figured with her introduction today it would be fitting. She is such a good looking pup.

Fast forward to 5 days after adoption I began to notice that Luna looked even heavier and her teats looked a little bigger than the day she arrived. And I thought, could she be pregnant?

Before we continue we have to look at what I said shortly after our Tampa Girl passed away at age 12 from and enlarged heart. I looked at Brandon and said:

“You know Tampa was the best dog I ever had and most likely will ever have. There is apart of me that wishes she could have had puppies just once over the time we had her. It would have been a cool experience to have with her.”

Again “famous Last words”.

We had Tampa spayed at 6 months old before her first heat, which is what we have always done and planned on spaying Luna right after we got her. The above was just me day dreaming out loud but not wanting litter of puppies in the future. However, God’s timing and sense of humor kicked in. I have to be careful what I say because God is always listening to me and this is not the first time I have said something out loud and God has taken me up on it. This has happened at least a dozen times or more in my lifetime. God also knows my heart and compassion for both people and creation.

OK back to Luna, the next day I called my vet and told them the whole story. We actually already had a spay appointment set up for Luna with them for the following Friday but we obviously needed to get her examined before moving forward. This brings us to this past Tuesday, 2 days ago. Day 10 of having Luna. We walked into the vet, might I add that at this point over the weekend Luna had gained even more weight and her mammary glands had begun to enlarge each passing day. If you are not aware, like we were not, dogs gestation period is only 52-68 days. Which means things begin to progress quickly in the later stages of pregnancy. The vet took one look at her and said, oh yes she is pregnant for sure. but she also agreed the other vet may have missed it because the signs don’t really start showing till now. She said we should have puppies sometime within the next two weeks.

As I sit writing this Luna is sitting next to me with her head on my lap sleeping with her now very big belly resting comfortable. And last night I could feel the puppies moving in her tummy. We are excited that God has entrusted us with this and at the same time nervous yet hopeful.

Once the puppies are born I will post how it all went along with photos of the pups. I personally have never held a new born pup this will be a first. I am also praying that God will help us find homes for these pups once they are 9-10 weeks old. We are praying that kind loving souls will find this post and want to give a pup a good home. Please pass this along if you know someone who can give a pup a great home. If that is you please feel free to comment below with your email and I will contact you.

God Speed!
